Chessie King, a former bikini model who is gaining a legion of fans on social media for sharing photos of her real body, revealed a very dark side of her previous job.

Now 31 years old, Chessie began competing in bikini contests at the age of 20 and shared that, despite the glamorous side, the job also has a “dark side.” According to her, women who participate in these events are often criticized for their weight, leading them to go on completely crazy diets.

She recalled that once someone complained she had “too much water weight,” which pushed her to embark on an obsessive journey to look good. This turned into an “unhealthy” obsession with the gym and led to calorie counting at absurd levels.

“For 18 weeks, I trained and ate differently than I ever had before. That was the furthest extreme I reached. Getting out of it was harder than getting into it. There weren’t many tips on how to get out of it. I had a mini-stroke for doing it.”

Fortunately, Chessie left that life behind and chose self-love. Today, she has over 600k followers on her Instagram profile, where she has no interest in showing a “perfect” body like the ones we see on social media.

“Becoming a mom gave me a new love for my body. It gave me a new purpose, and it still does. I’m so aware of what my body can do. I don’t see exercise as punishment anymore,” the influencer added.
