Cameron Diaz, one of Hollywood’s biggest names throughout the 1990s and 2000s, surprised fans and the entertainment industry when she announced her retirement from acting.
After hits such as *There’s Something About Mary*, *The Mask*, *Charlie’s Angels* and *My Best Friend’s Wedding*, the actress decided to step away from cinema completely — and now she explains why.
Prioritizing personal life and exhaustion from the Hollywood routine
In recent interviews, Cameron revealed that the decision wasn’t sudden. According to her, the intense routine of filming, commitments and industry pressure made her rethink her priorities. She admitted she had been living on “autopilot,” with no time for herself.
“I just needed to become self-sufficient again,” she said. “We spend so many hours working, and I wanted space to organize my life, have more balance and take care of myself.”

Focus on family and new projects
Another decisive factor was motherhood. Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, became parents in 2019, and the arrival of Raddix completely changed her outlook.
“Becoming a mother transformed me. I wanted to be present, to live that moment without the pressure of major productions,” she said.
In addition to family life, Cameron began investing in personal projects, including her organic wine brand, Avaline, which has become a hit among celebrities and consumers who prefer natural products.
A selective return to the screen
Despite the long break, Cameron Diaz accepted a one-time return for a special project alongside Jamie Foxx, in a film initially produced by Netflix. Even so, the actress emphasizes that she has no intention of returning to the heavy routine of filmmaking as before.
“I love acting, but I don’t want it to control my life again,” she concluded.
