Model Elaina St James, 57, recently created versions of herself using artificial intelligence (AI) and was surprised by the results of the experiment.

Elaina, who began her online career at 54, noticed a drop in views on her uploads and suspected that the rise of virtual influencers might be the cause. Upon investigation, she realized that many of these virtual influencers were around her age.
Intrigued, Elaina decided to use AI to create various versions of herself at different ages. She presented these versions on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok, exploring how different appearances might affect her success on social media.
Elaina created profiles for characters like Ella Sophia, 20; Ashley Taylor, a curvy blonde; Eva Taylor, a version of herself aged 40 to 45; and Elle Taylor, an older version aged over 60. To her surprise, Elle Taylor, the older version, was the most successful, amassing 19,400 followers.
She shared her findings in a YouTube video, highlighting that traffic for older AI models peaked between October and December 2023. Elaina reflected that this might be due to the lack of older, attractive influencers in the market.
Elaina concluded that her experiment gave her a new perspective on the world of young influencers and on her own future as a content creator.
