Twitter releases official statement criticizing censorship in Brazil

The official Twitter profile, “Global Government Affairs”, has just released the following statement regarding censorship in Brazil

“X Corp. was forced by judicial decisions to block certain popular accounts in Brazil. We have informed these accounts that we have taken such measures.
We do not know the reasons why these blocking orders were issued.

We do not know which posts supposedly violated the law.

We are prohibited from informing which court or judge issued the order, or in what context.

We are prohibited from informing which accounts were affected.

We are threatened with daily fines if we do not comply with the order.

We do not believe that such orders are in line with the Civil Framework of the Internet or with the Federal Constitution of Brazil and will legally challenge the orders as far as possible.

The Brazilian people, regardless of their political beliefs, have the right to freedom of expression, due process, and transparency from their own authorities.”
