During the trial, Judge John Potter mentioned that she had debts of around $20,000 and thus resorted to “desperate but highly illegal means” to pay them off. As a result, she had lost her “impeccable” character.
“You decided to trust someone you barely knew. You acted under the direction of others, potentially to make more profit,” the judge continued during the hearing, before stating that she should undergo 15 days of rehabilitation.
