At a press conference for the film at the Venice Film Festival, the actress discussed her new and bold intimate scenes, saying the film is about ‘desire, inner thoughts, secrets, marriage, truth, power, and consent.’
To Vanity Fair, Kidman admitted that Babygirl is the most ‘exposing’ project she has ever worked on and she wasn’t sure she would have the ‘courage’ to watch the film again. “This is something you do and hide in your home videos. It’s not something that will normally be seen by the world. I felt very exposed as an actress, as a woman, as a human being.”
“This [film] definitely leaves me exposed, vulnerable, scared, and all those things when it’s given to the world, but doing it with these people here was delicate and intimate. Now [pre-release], we’re all a bit nervous,” the actress said, praising the work of director Halina Reijn.
“[It’s a] story of a woman […] told by a woman through her lens. That’s what made it so unique to me because suddenly I would be in the hands of a woman with this material. It was very dear to our shared instincts and very liberating,” Kidman added.
