Laura La Rue, a successful model in Hollywood, decided to completely change her life after leaving her successful career to live in a school bus.
The former model, 32, who is the mother of a sweet little baby girl, has worked with photographer David LaChapelle and was once rumored to be linked with actor Leonardo DiCaprio. However, she decided to leave it all behind to live a simpler life.
“I was tired of city life. I thought, ‘I don’t like this at all.’ I could feel my cortisol levels skyrocketing. I had health issues caused by stress,” she said in a recent interview with the LA Times.
“I was on a ridiculous model diet and wanted to transform myself. I started therapy and spent some time alone to work on myself,” she shared, explaining that she decided to spend time in a cabin at her mother’s ranch in Santa Barbara to reconnect with herself.
It was there that she fell in love with a man working on the ranch, and the two decided to go on an adventure, living in a 1981 Silver Streak trailer. However, the relationship ended after she became pregnant, and La Rue realized their lifestyle wasn’t ideal for raising a child.
She then decided to settle on a piece of land in Ojai, a village in California, to live with her baby in a bus that had been renovated and adapted with everything needed for her and Lasca, her 16-month-old daughter. Today, she works selling clothing pieces that she dyes herself under her own brand, Ride or Dye.
“My goal is to inspire people to make changes to improve their lives and not be afraid to take risks,” she said, adding that despite her fortified shelter, she and her daughter “do everything outdoors.” “That’s the best way for a child to grow up,” she concluded.
