“I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart to share that my son, Joey, was recently involved in a serious scooter accident,” wrote Burford’s mother, Kelle Mortensen, in a post on GoFundMe.
Mortensen did not provide details about her son’s accident but pointed out that he fell due to “blind stairs” in Long Beach, California. “It’s absolutely ridiculous that there are no signs or anything,” she protested regarding the stairs.
The young man has already undergone a three-hour surgery on Saturday (19) to correct some of the broken bones in his face. He remains in the ICU, but the brain hemorrhage has stopped and has not worsened.
The fundraising campaign to cover the costs of the surgeries has already raised over $36,000.
