The influencer Tahlia Skaines received a flood of criticism after posting some pictures in which she appears in the white dress she chose to celebrate a friend’s wedding.

In the pictures, she is seen at sunset in Bali, where the ceremony took place, wearing a long, deeply scalloped white dress that Tahlia chose for her friend’s wedding. However, some internet users criticized the dress Tahlia wore.

“Seriously? Even if there isn’t a dress code, did you forget that this day isn’t about you? You wore a dress almost identical to the bride’s… have a bit of decency and respect,” wrote one user. “It’s not appropriate to wear at a wedding,” said another. “And suddenly a new candidate for ‘Narcissist of the Year’ emerges,” quipped a third.

On her YouTube channel, Tahlia posted a video to address the criticism, particularly the claim that there was no dress code. “The theme is white,” she informed her followers, adding that she didn’t know the party theme was white until two days before the ceremony.

“This is one of those things that are self-inflicted… as if I’m the problem. I didn’t know the theme was white. In fact, I saw the invitation nine months ago. I don’t remember seeing white there,” explained the influencer, who said she already had an outfit planned but had to change dresses when she received the dress code.

“I tried on another dress and felt that a bit of my stomach was showing,” she continued. “I also think that, since the theme is white and I already feel illegal wearing white, it just seems so wrong on so many levels,” she added, and was fortunately able to find a white dress to rent at the last minute.
