Numerous videos were shared showing bright orbs that blinked and vanished, causing concern among locals. One witness recorded orange lights, while another, using Doppler radar, detected a rectangular object 32 kilometers long, with a vapor trail about 240 kilometers.
Experts suggested that the lights could be military flares, as Alejandro Rojas mentioned that these devices are often mistaken for unidentified flying objects and usually blink in sequence. Rojas, who investigates UFO cases, explained that military flares are common during nighttime exercises and create a startling effect, which could explain the sightings.
However, a spokesperson for Grissom Base stated that the KC-135 planes used there do not carry flares, raising doubts about this explanation.
These sightings are part of a series of similar reports near military installations, such as those at Langley-Eustis Joint Base, where fast and colorful lights were also observed.
