A female Syrian hamster was saved by a group of people at The Shakers pub in Essex, UK. The little rodent was being chased by a cat and was safely placed in a beer glass.
She was being chased on a busy road when people saw the scene and rescued her with the glass. She was taken to the Blue Cross adoption center. The rodent was underweight but healthy.
Tara Schafer, coordinator of temporary homes at Blue Cross in Suffolk, said she was surprised that the hamster survived “both the cat and the busy road.”
She was adopted by a woman from Norfolk, who named her Sunflower. “I chose Sunflower because I loved her rescue story and thought the name was cute. Although now we sometimes call her Pumpkin,” she told the Daily Star.
Her new caregiver said she is living the best days of her life. “She is being spoiled every day with various foods and a lot of love. “She has adapted well and is always happy to come to your hand, squeaking when you approach the cage. Probably because of all the food,” she said.
