Hayley Hasselhoff, daughter of David Hasselhoff, recently gave an interview discussing the plus-size modeling industry and admitted that there has been a “regression” in body positivity.

“I don’t think we can turn a blind eye to the fact that, I believe, the industry has regressed a bit when it comes to talking about body positivity,” she said in an interview with Daily Star.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say from today. But I would say that maybe a year ago, ‘chic heroine’ was obviously the slogan that was coming up during that period,” she lamented.

“And this is something I hope we’re starting to dial back again and that we’re moving forward. I think during fashion month we started to see a significant decline in what we were starting to see with plus-size models gaining recognition on the runway.”

According to her, the conversation around body positivity may have taken a step back because people might think it has become part of the “norm.” “However, the issue is when you stop talking about something we fought for so many years, it goes back to being what we were fighting against in the first place.”

As the first plus-size model from Europe to appear on the cover of a well-known men’s magazine and a contributing fashion editor for Marie Claire UK, Hayley assured that she will continue to use her platform to break down barriers for larger women.

“I feel there has been a slight shift since we started talking about it again,” she said. “We’ve always had to push the door and fight consistently to have our voices heard. […] I still think we have a long way to go.”
