In an interview with Thehill, manager Tim Sweeney said he felt “absolute disbelief to start” before confirming the amount with the customer. “We went back and forth. I had a conversation with him. He wanted to proceed. [The waitress] was absolutely shocked.”
Mark also told the staff the reason for his five-figure tip.
“It was in memory of a friend who recently passed away, and he was in town for the funeral,”
The money was split among the nine coworkers, each taking home just over $1,100.
Asked how long it takes for a restaurant like his to earn $10,000 just in tips, Sweeney said:
“Many, many, many months.”
