Russian fighter Idris Abdurashidov, 21, faces a lifetime ban from boxing after kicking an opponent in the head. The video of the illegal strike went viral on social media after the boxer shared it on Instagram.
Abdurashidov was making his debut against Iranian Bagher Faraji in Phuket, Thailand, on Saturday (19). Faraji had the upper hand in the fight, but in the fourth and final round at the Ali Boxing Club, Abdurashidov delivered the kick.
The Russian was disqualified from the fight but celebrated his action on social media. “So, I made my pro boxing debut. And a lifetime disqualification, that leg kick I threw like a machine gun!” he wrote in the caption.
Online commenters criticized the boxer’s action. “He should be arrested for assault and banned from any combat sport again. That’s really low,” one protested.
“He should be banned from all sports,” said a second. “Say you’re bad at boxing without actually saying you’re bad at boxing,” a third joked.
In another post on his Instagram, Abdurashidov showed he made peace with Faraji, but he will still be banned from boxing for life. The Russian is a professional MMA fighter and had been undefeated in his last four fights.
