Blue Origin had to remove a video showing the reaction of a space tourist during her first time in space due to a flood of sexist comments from internet users.
Emily Calandrelli, a TV science program host, became the 100th woman to go to space last Friday (22) after boarding one of the company’s spacecraft.
The 37-year-old aerospace engineer shared that she cried after seeing the extremely misogynistic comments under the video where she appeared reacting to zero gravity while looking at Earth through the window.
“This is our planet. Oh my God, this is space,” she reflected in the clip. Shortly after, thousands of users posted offensive comments about her, including about her appearance, according to the Daily Mail website.

“It’s not an achievement to be a woman,” wrote one user. “Do you consider yourself the most beautiful woman to have ever gone to space? Any other contenders?” commented another. “Why is she [making these sounds], I can’t stop hearing it,” said a third.
On Monday (25), she made a post to comment on the incident. “All of this happened while I was heading home after experiencing the most perfect and wonderful dream-come-true moment of my life,” she wrote.
“And instead of being on cloud nine, I’m crying in my seat, looking out the window. Because, of course, this happened. Of course, I should have expected it. But I refuse to spend too much time on those little men of the internet,” Calandrelli quipped.
“I feel experiences in my soul. It’s a trait I inherited from my father. We feel every emotion deeply, and what a beautiful way to live life. This joy is tattooed on my heart. I will not apologize or feel strange about my reaction. It’s totally mine and I love it,” she concluded.
