Kate Lawler, the winner of the 2002 Big Brother UK season, has hit back at accusations of anorexia after sharing pictures of herself looking extremely thin on social media.
The 44-year-old reality star faced accusations of having an eating disorder after posting images of her notably slender frame on Instagram. In an appearance on the podcast It Can’t Just Be Me, she discussed the matter with host Anna Richardson.
“People say, ‘You must not be eating,’ but I’m happy with the size I am. I eat. People shame you for being overweight or underweight. You don’t need to send insults to troll others,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Kate has been targeted by such speculation. Last September, online users began questioning her health, with some even comparing her physique to that of Nikki Grahame, another Big Brother contestant who tragically passed away in 2021 at the age of 38 after a long battle with anorexia.
At the time, Kate told The Sun that while overweight women are praised for showing off their curves, slimmer women are criticized for the same reason, creating a “double standard.”
“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. Comparing me to her is outrageous and so insensitive to Nikki’s family. If someone shows off their curves on Instagram […] they’re celebrated and called ‘real women.’ Well, why can’t a real woman be a healthy size eight? It’s crazy,” she lamented at the time.
