Resident of a historic building in Brazil pays condominium fee with over 1,600 coins after management demanded that payment be made in cash. The photo of the payment went viral on social media.

Danielly Rocha, a resident of the JK building in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, went viral on social media after paying her condominium fee with over 1,600 coins.

She paid the amount of 835 R$ (approximately 149 USD) using coins ranging from five cents to 1 real (Brazilian currency).

Danielly has lived in the building for seven years and stated that her gesture was a form of protest. Another resident of the building also paid with coins.

“For me, this was the ultimate absurdity. It is impractical and dangerous for us, here in the building, to go out during working hours, go there, and withdraw the money, which is a significant amount. It makes no sense,” she said in an interview with the g1 portal.

Danielly explained that she organized a task force with friends from work to collect the coins. She mentioned that the reaction of the condominium staff was one of dissatisfaction. It took them two hours to count the money.

The management stated that they adopted cash payments due to issues with issuing bills with the banks.
