Since she began participating in the social media of the nursing home where she lives in Danville, Virginia, she earned the title of TikTok Queen from her fellow residents.
It all started with a fun video of Weatherford and some of her friends dancing to “Pretty Girls Walk” by Big Boss Vette. The clip received just over 12,000 views, but that was enough for Nancy to want to take part in more productions.
She then made a video where she could showcase her acting talent; in a hilarious clip, Weatherford questions other residents of the facility about the disappearance of their powdered sugar donuts.
The post hit over 1 million views, and the nursing home’s follower count began to rise, with many people eagerly awaiting more videos from the group of seniors.
In an interview with a local TV network, Heather Dehart, one of the directors of the nursing home, commented on the positive impact Weatherford’s posts have had on everyone living there: “It gives them something to do. It gives them a sense of purpose.”
“When they have family members calling from different states saying, ‘Oh my God, I saw how much fun you’re having on TikTok.’ It makes them ask, ‘When are we doing the next one, because my family wants to know?'” said Dehart.
For Weatherford, the videos are proof that seniors know how to have fun too, and a lesson for younger people: “Being older is fun. Maybe young people think ‘ugh,’ but we have a lot of fun too.”
